is it possible to go jogging every night for the next 10 months, slowly working up to the marathon distance in increments? i do think 10 months is enough time; most actual plans are only 4-5 months, but you need to be able to run 6 miles for the first long run. i suggest doing a 5k plan first, maybe start with the popular couch to 5k which is 9 weeks long. they took me to my first half and my first full. in 22 months when you do your second full marathon… that’s when you bust out the speed work and try to crush your previous time. and couch to 5k got me running in the first place a bunch of years ago. the important thing is to trust in the process and avoid doing too much too soon, as that’s a recipe for injury (and you don’t have a lot of time for setbacks!)
the biggest mistakes i’ve seen are missing training (then trying to make it up) and having a run that goes better than expected followed by bumping up the training, thinking that they’re ready for more, then getting injured. then start a 16-20 wk plan and stick to it. this will give you a idea of what you need to do during your preparation for this marathon. my wife and i are running our first marathon in october! it certainly is, but be warned that the last 10k is likely to be painful! if you’re at this point in the last 10k, you end up slowing down and its a long slog to the finish line. and working yourself up to running 10ks comfortably is definitely doable over the first 4-5 month of your 10 months, so yeah if you are in good health and at a decent weight what you propose is doable.
