when the hell am i meant to fit in the exercise?!” to gauge my starting point, i visit the university of westminster for a full-body measurement in one of its state-of-the-art bodypods. from having to drop into knees-down press-ups and being all over the show with my shoulder-lifting technique, it’s dawning on me that this is going to be a lot harder than i had anticipated. with trembling arms and wobbly legs, i struggle to lift so much as a fork over the weekend as my savaged muscles recover. it suddenly feels like my muscles are actually recovering between workouts and the added calories and quality of nutrition is starting to tell. so, a quarter of the way through and not only do i feel better for eating well, but my productivity and energy levels also feel like they’ve tripled.
but this is the way to build mass and is the absolute focus of this week. i only cheat on one of the days, cutting short my session by ten minutes and jumping in the amazing spa akasha has to offer. while my nutrition and alcohol intake is a little all over the place over the course of the week, i manage to squeeze in a couple of visits to the gym before the new year too. the perfect sound to describe the collision between the ground and my aching body as i flop to the deck halfway through day one of week ten. a move i’d consider receiving to get away from the crunches, planks and kick-sits of this week. my physical and mental energy levels have without doubt doubled – a real surprise to me with a newborn baby at home and the sleep deprivation that comes with that. but it was also incredibly enjoyable and it’s really proved what is achievable in a 35-minute workout window with the right nutrition and a bit of commitment.
